Nasty Gal Fall 2013 Collection
Wow was the only thing running through my head while perusing the Nasty Gal Fall 2013 lookbook. I must say, the design team did a fantastic job this season. There were super-80’s crop tops to retro bandeau tops. There were cutouts with sheer insets in an ankle length long sleeved dress featuring a fantastic deep v-neckline and also in a devastatingly modern yet so retro strapless bodycon dress. I could go on about how great this collection is but you can clearly infer from the aforementioned attributes of this collection that there is plenty o’goodness happening. I’ve always kept my eye on Nasty Gal back some years after the initial website launch from it’s humble beginnings as an Ebay store selling vintage pieces. Even back then I could already the feel the spirit of what Nasty Gal stood for and what it means to be a Nasty Gal (lol) as Sophia Amoruso (CEO & Founder) has always conveyed while still attaining great success. But I digress. I just want to say, Sophia, I appreciate you so much for your roster of in-house designers. This collection was just spectacular as well as their S/S 2013 collection which, if you hurry, you might still be able to purchase pieces still on SALE =D. The use of texture in this collection was drool worthy. There were electric to earth toned leather pieces; Sheen fabrics appeared in the forms of cropped halter tops with matching high waist trousers and a sheer paneled bodysuit. My favorite piece would have to be a multi-textured, multi-paneled moto jacket. Overall, superb job to everyone involved. I tell ya, if I had the figure!……. and I’m a guy, okay? Clearly, that tells you a lot, more so about me. But I hope in respite of your fascination of me, that tells you it’s that good of a collection. Do not be surprised if I don a piece from their website. They’re just that good.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!!!
I’ve been in a “shoe mood” lately. Perfect way to spruce up an all black outfit around this time of year. Add tights if you wish or just let the breeze (-100° air) caress your ankles. The right choice of shoes will make any outfit that much interesting.

Ways to Wear the Denim Trend
Below you’ll find two looks I created incorporating the denim trend. For the first look (the one on the left) you have your basic blue jeans. These ones are by Current/Elliot. Pair these jeans with a sheer blouse layered on top of the a leopard bustier top. The added print will definitely add some extra pizzazz to your outfit. Then, to add some real downtown cool kid appeal to your ensemble, throw on your best pair of sneakers. The ones pictured below are the Air Jordan Retro 11 Bred colorway.
For the second look, capture the grunge look by rocking a pair of vertically striped skinny jeans in black and white. These ones are by Balmain. Capitalize on the grunge look even further by wearing a pair of flat ankle boots with interesting hardware. Bring the whole look together with a solid colored peplum top for some added volume and color.
When it comes to accessories for both of the looks, keep it minimal yet attention-grabbing. For both looks, gold accessories will look best. For the first ensemble, wear a chunky necklace and bracelet and throw on a solid gold ring for that extra pizzazz. The second ensemble warrants similar themed jewelry. Add this leather wrap around bracelet with a gold razor-blade by McQ by Alexander McQueen. Then to top the look off, add a multi-chain necklace. The one pictured is by Lizzie Fortunato and also features leather in the design.

I Dream of Jean-ie
Not too long ago, I was perusing through the latest S/S 13 Runway photos on Vogue.com and happened to notice a particular trend ubiquitous in many shows, both menswear and womenswear. That trend, my friends, is DENIM. Now don’t get me wrong, I know denim has never gone out of style completely but come next season, denim will only be that much stronger. I mean, who can’t resist a good pair of jeans or a great denim jacket. Denim from all washes and all cuts were seen from the likes of Calvin Klein, Christopher Kane, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Balmain, and many more.
On Balmain’s runway, there was heavy usage of next season’s hottest trend colors black and white, but there was also a little denim sprinkled in for good measure. For S/S 13, Rousteing decided to turn the fabric into strong shouldered mini-dresses and blazers, cropped bustiers, and slouchy trousers, which gave the collection an 80’s feel to it. I think that this is Rousteing’s best collection to-date. There’s no way but up from here for the young designer.
For S/S 13, Lim decided to incorporate 90’s grunge into his collection. There was the plaid/tartan button-down shirt, slouchy in all it’s glory, tucked into a pair of equally slouchy trousers. There was also a pair of neon pink suede overalls that most likely threw show-goers for a loop. The grunge look was definitely seen in the collection but it also possessed an ultra feminine look to as well and I loved it. Last but not least, there was the denim (and in multiple forms I might add). You can’t have grunge without denim right? Right! There were patchwork denim pieces, denim frocks, and of course denim jeans with fraying so intricately placed on the leg. Lim’s collection gave a sense of wearability that could be mixed and matched with other pieces from the collection. I can definitely see the fashion-forward crowd in a piece or two from his collection.
When it came to menswear, designers made sure to include the boys in the fashion soiree. The top left image is from Calvin Klein’s S/S 13 Menswear Collection. The collection was heavy with denim; from denim jackets to denim jeans. This collection gave off an early 90’s type of vibe and it was well appreciated. The middle image is of Versace’s S/S 13 show. This collection was definitely a Spring/Summer collection, from the clothes to the make of the clothes. The first half of the show was filled with men coming down the runway in speedos and mesh shorts emblazoned with the Versace logo. The attire then shifted and neon colors, graphic print, denim cargo pants, and metallic vests and suits came down the runway. For Christopher Kane’s S/S 13 Menswear Presentation, he took a subdued approach with the denim trend. He opted for black slim legged jeans and let the top’s of his denim looks standout. His collection possessed color encompassed by black, white, and grey. A very dark collection but still brilliant nonetheless.
This spring, stock up on great fitting pairs of jeans. You can never have to many and jeans are something that will never go out of style.

As we may all know, NY Fashion Week is but a day away. From then on, it’ll be nothing but fashion galore with prominent designers and up and coming designers showcasing next seasons trends on the runway. Not only will there be runway shows for the next week in NY, but there’ll also be a bevy of fashion elite parties to add some fun to the experience. Oh, how I wish I was there to partake in the fun. Stay on Trend: Sweaters
For Fall/Winter 2012, it looks like sweaters may be gearing up to become one of the biggest trends this season. With the various cuts and fabrics that were seen on runways, it’s no surprise why; not to mention the beautiful color schemes seen on runways as well. Below you will find two ways utilize the sweater trend. The first look on the left is an example of how you can wear a sweater during the daytime and the second look on the right is an example of how you could wear a sweater out at night .
The sweater on the left is by Stella McCartney and it features bright colors and various shapes. You could pair this sweater with either a great pair of skinny or baggy pair of blue jeans or, as I styled it, with a skinny pair of cargo pants. Add the finishing touches by pairing the outfit with a pair of matching hue sneaker wedges and matching tote. For a dose of cool, incorporate sunglasses into your look.
The second sweater on the left is by Dolce & Gabbana and features a knitted floral torso surrounded by black. With this sweater, you can wear it with a skirt, like the one pictured below by Balenciaga, or with a pair of black skinny leather pants. To get that real evening wear feel with your ensemble, pair it with a basic black clutch like the Yves Saint Laurent clutch below and a gold necklace and cuff. For shoes, infuse a little more sparkle in your wardrobe with a pair of bedazzled Christian Louboutin platform pumps.

Fall/Winter 2012 Trend Prediction: The Sweater
Even though we’re in the middle of summer, it’s never too early to trend forecast for the impending Fall & Winter months. For this year’s Fall/Winter seasons, there was one trend that seemed to be present on all the runways, and that trend is the always cozy sweater. There were sweaters ranging from all sorts of cuts and fabrics. There were crewneck sweaters, V-neck sweaters, sweaters with graphic prints, all-over printed sweaters, and the list goes on.
On Margiela’s runway, there were oversized turtleneck sweaters that extended past the neck and onto the face. The sweaters were paired with leather skirts and trousers to give the looks a simple yet sophisticated feel.
For Ralph Lauren’s F/W collection, there was a prominent presence of sweater vests on the runway. Knitted patterned sweater vests were sent down the runway styled with plaid trousers, argyle socks, and a outerwear ranging from blazers to long overcoats to give the collection that young school boy vibe to it.
Nicholas Ghesquière chose to embrace the sweater trend by making his sweaters out of satin. On his satin sweaters were space age appliques styled with A-line skirts and ankle boots with a pair of gloves for good measure. For F/W 2012, Ghesquière’s overall approach for this collection was to experiment and push forward with the future of office attire and I think he’s succeeded.
Proenza Schouler’s F/W collection was filled with oversized silhouettes and matching patterns. Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough tackled the sweater trend by making the sweaters, and also top and outerwear, oversized and slouchy. Pairing the sweater with a matching print mini skirt and open-toe ankle boots gave this particular look a casual whimsical feel to the collection.
